Flume Trail
D ifficulty: Intermediate/advanced. Distance: 22 miles. Vertical gain/loss: +2200'/-2200', +3000'/-3000'

The Flume Trail takes in one of the most scenic portions of the Tahoe Rim Trail, making it one of Tahoe's most popular rides.
This ride can be done as an intermediate out-and-back, or as an advanced ride with 3 different loop options.
From the trailhead in the Spooner Lake Park, all routes start with a rigorous climb to Marlette Lake up North Canyon from Spooner Lake, head around the west side of Marlette Lake, and then onto the epic Flume Trail singletrack.

Where the Flume Trail ends at Tunnel Creek Road, you can turn around and retrace your route to Spooner Lake to complete the intermediate out-and-back ride.
More advanced riders will want to consider the loop options. Make a right turn onto Tunnel Creek road, climb up to where the Tahoe Rim Trail crosses the road. Turn right onto the TRT and continue climbing past Twin Lakes and on up to Marlette Peak. Where the TRT crosses a jeep trail near the summit of Marlette Peak, turn right onto the jeep trail and descend down to Marlette Lake (do not continue on TRT as this portion of trail is closed to mountain biking). Once you are back at the lake, turn left and retrace your route back down North Canyon to Spooner Lake.
